City spies golden gate5/13/2023 ![]() ![]() ![]() Cameron suspects that his parents' death has something to do with the book, especially when he is hailed as the hero who can save Chidani because he is a descendant of the founders. They manage to get sucked into the book and travel to Chidani, a secret country in Nigeria where the queen, Ramala, has been replaced by her sister, Amina, who does not have the best interest of the people of Chidani OR the people in Cameron's realm at heart. ![]() Cameron used to read the book with his best friend, Zion, and when bad weather in Atlanta has the two stuck inside with another friend, Aliyah, they read the book against the grandmother's wishes. The Book of Chidani is based on Igbo legends, but his grandmother has banished the book to the attic and forbidden Cameron from reading it because it brings up so many memories for her. Cameron, who is being raised by his grandmother after his parents' deaths, has always taken comfort in a family heirloom book. ![]()

A million suns by beth revis5/13/2023 ![]() ![]() They put a lot of emotion into their storytelling. To me, this story only needed to be two books. Let's face it - this is filler and an attempt to find a story to bridge to the third book. Or him suddenly deciding he's not upset his gf was nearly rapted and friends killed by the same guy (after the rapist is taken care of by the leader doesn't know it). Then let's not mention having a boyfriend who runs the entire place and not telling him about rapes so he can fix it. Stupid cliches, such as 'mystery within clues' etc., are just so pointless when there is so much at stake. Characters do inexplicable things, for no particular reason, all to push the plot. But this second book was frustrating enough that I spent most of my time rolling my eyes at the way it was written. The best way to describe all 3 books is that the villain is patently obvious in each one by the reasons why they are doing what they are tends to not be as obvious. i think this would have been a much better series had the author taken her time and really figured out the story better (or had more proactive editors watching plot holes). This book really frustrates with those plot holes. Others have describe a plot so holey as to be swiss cheese, and I felt the same way. I liked the first book - with the caveat that I had to suspend disbelief quite a few times. ![]()

Guitar notes by mary amato5/13/2023 ![]() ![]() There’s a lot happening very quickly in the pages, and some of it falls flat – Layla’s domineering best friend Annie, for example, never becomes much more than a two-dimensional plot progressor – but there’s enough there to keep things moving. ![]() ![]() Its format switches between regular prose, texts, emails, notes, and even songs, which adds interest to the story. Guitar Notes was easy to read and checked all of the boxes – music theory, struggling prodigy feeling misunderstood, friendship, self discovery, humor, drama. When cello prodigy Layla finds that free-spirit Tripp has left trash in the practice room, she writes him a passive aggressive note – and an unexpected friendship begins. (What a difficult topic to find – if you have any suggestions, I’d love to hear them!) In Guitar Notes, aquaintences Layla and Tripp are forced to trade off on a school practice room by days of the week. I picked up Guitar Notes on a quest to find a good book about non-musical theater music performance and theory for my middle school musicians. ![]()

Pandeymonium5/12/2023 ![]() ![]() The book’s chapter titles in themselves are worth pinning up on the soft-board of your office. digital platform, where duration is history. “Engaging audience through great stories, albeit with the use of new technologies” writes Piyush Pandey, cuing about the new media world i.e. But then, it wouldn’t have made sense because each chapter eventually leads to this nirvana. The last chapter of Pandeymonium is so inspiring that I wished the author had begun the book with it. Advertising has always been about telling stories, and in the same breath, selling concepts. So there isn’t actually an elusive ‘big dream’ one needs to pursue. Pandeymonium made me realize that being a copywriter and a storyteller means the same. The chapter in question is called, ‘the future of advertising: Boom time for storytellers’. This confident response to a causal query stems from the realization one had while reading the final chapter of Piyush Pandey’s ‘unputdownable’ book, ‘Pandeymonium’. ![]() A colleague once asked me, “What do you aspire to become?” To acquaint you with the background – We both are copywriters and this query was about my ‘big dream’, owing to my leaning towards making short film, writing short stories and poetry. ![]()
